Align Above: Cultivating a Life of Wellness!
At the young age of nineteen, Kristin Hagen, an original artist: a national award-winning organist, a talented local, state, and national Team USA competitive dancer, and a previous contestant of Miss Idaho USA, was a survivor of a serious automobile accident. It was not the accident itself, rather her injuries were caused by the sheer force behind a violent deployment of an “original” first-generation high-powered airbag (1994). A few years later, during her recovery, she was injured by yet another airbag. This time it was the redesigned second-generation airbag (1997).
Kristin Hagen is a two-time airbag injury survivor who did not achieve true recovery until utilizing integrative medicine in a structured wellness plan. After discovering integrative medicine that focuses on all components of a patient’s health—including the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects—she was finally able to achieve meaningful results and feel like her true self again. Upon discovering this type of medicine, she decided to make it her life’s mission to grow the field and raise awareness of its benefits. A wellness and nutrition coach, she is a proponent of getting well, staying well and making good life choices. Ms. Hagen is the author of Align Above: My Passionate Dance at Life!, a memoir published in 2018, focused on wellness through integrative medicine. A lifetime healthcare informatics professional, she is also Executive Director of the American College of Medical Scribe Specialists (ACMSS™) and the American College of Clinical Documentation Outcomes (ACCDO).
As a high-performing athlete, and healthy and vivacious individual, in an overnight twist Kristin experienced severe, sudden, immediate debilitation due to the exploding force of the airbags. Through the lack of definitive wellness plans available across America, Kristin found herself forgetting the kind of complete freedom that fullness of mind, body, and spirit can bring you, and the feeling real mobility brings. It took her many years before she was able to re-awaken the deep memory of being truly well, truly mobile, and being whole once again. This experience and the growing shift of America’s evolving health care system inspired and empowered Kristin to take action, identify and implement the cure, and ultimately design and follow her own researched path into evidence-based wellness and cures. Her intensive research and passion compelled her into creating 21st century sustainable health care, education, and careers, focused on 21st century care to cures.
